The ancient temple of Yogdhyan Badri is named after the Pandav King. The holy site of Yog Dhyan Badri is mainly situtated in town of Pandukeshwar at an elevation of around 1920 mts above the sea level. The place is located 24 kms before from the famous Badrinath on the Badrinath – Rishikesh national Highway. Legend says that the sanctum has an image of Lord in the Yog Dhyan meditative posture. Generally it is known that the Pandavas remained victorious post battle against the Kauravas, but emotionally scarred, also came to the huge peaks of the Himalayan range. And from here onwards their capital, Hastinapur got handed over to King Parikshit and later on he took penance before going out on the path of heaven.

The name of the town was derived from Pandu who did meditation at this place at around 23 kms away from the Sadrinath for lifting the curses of the sage and was also blessed through the Lord. The holy site is vital and the shrine also had the lord’s image in the posture of meditation. The site of Yogdhyan Badri which is as old as the temple of Badrinath also has copper plates that authenticate the temple’s history and the Katyuri Chand rulers from the regions of Kumaun and Garhwal who also issued them dated as far back as fifth or fourth century A.D. All these temples are devoted to Yogdhyan Badri. Being near Joshimath the site can be easily accessible for travellers who wish to discover more about the Panch Badri temples.
