Rudranath

The temple of Rudranath is one of the most prominent sites of the town of Uttarakhand and is the fourth one within the series of the Panch Kedar Sites. The temple is located at a height of about 2,286 mts above the sea level in the district of Chamoli. Reaching the temple of Rudranath is generally considered the toughest compared to the various other temples of region of Panch Kedar. The peaks of Himalaya add up for a great glory to the mountains of Nanda Ghunti, Rudranath and Trishul.

The entre trekking route for the temple of Rudranath bestows travellers with awe-inspiring scenic glimpses of diversified natural beauty. The temple of Rudranath, Himalayan views and dense forests makes the whole place a heavenly hamlet. Morning aarti at the sacred temple of Rudranath would begin at morning 8 am and the entire evening aarti is performed at the time of 6:30 pm in evening. Nearby the temple premises visitors would come across a glittering water stream which is called as Vaitarini or the “Salvation Water”. Rudranath temple generally remains closed from the months of April to November.

Trekking route for the temple commences from the village of Sagar and covers a total distance of 21 kms till the temple site. The village is located just 5kms away from the town of Gopeshwar. Trek to the town of Rudranath is considered a moderate one as the whole route is steep and travellers won’t get any villages on the route. Till the site of Panar Bugyal travellers will find the whole route to be steep.

How To Reach

By Air: The closest airport to the town is the Jolly Grant airport in the capital town of Dehradun. The airport is situated at around 258 km away from the town. Inside the airport travellers will find cars and taxis which can be hired till Srinagar and Gopeshwar.

By Rail: Rishikesh Railway station is the nearest one with a distance of 241 km away from the temple site. Here onwards buses can be hired from Rishikesh ISBT. Or else taxis can also be hired.

By Road: Buses can be available from the town of Haridwar, Rishikesh, Rudranath and Kotdwara. Here onwards you will need to go through the strenuous trek towards the temple site.
