Panchachuli Glacier

The adventurous trek for Panchachuli base camp is one of the most exciting places to be for a traveller. The beautiful site can be reached after a strenuous trek of 40 km that commences from Dar to the Panchachuli Glacier. The whole placed is snugly stretched within the lap of snow covered Panchachuli peaks. The beautiful Darma valley situated at the northeast end of Pithoragarh district grants travellers with abundance of scenic delights. The route towards the glacier is abound in a splendid combination of snowcapped mountains, enthralling sceneries, alpine meadows, varied flora and fauna and gushing narrow streams.

Panchachuli’s base camp trek creates a huge watershed between the Darma Valley and Gauri Ganga. The place is visited by nature lovers to just experience the ethereal magnificence of Mother Nature. Mostly visiting this place wouldn’t require muhc reasons being in the Higher Himalayan mountains sounds a great way to experience fun and adventure. To reach the trekking site one needs to reach to Dar which is the last accessible site and is 42 kms kms away from the town of Dharchula (dist Pithoragarh).

Throughout the trail, trekkers would pass through the peaceful remote villages of Sela, Baaling, Nagling, Duktu and Bongling along the Dhauliganga River with the thick dense Forests of conifers and Bhoipatra. The Panchachuli Himalayan Glacier is a group glacier nearby the towns of Darma and Johar Valley that are the srouce of Yuli River. The nearest glacier to the Panchachuli glacier is the Uttari Balati Glacier which is located at the North. The Group of Panchachuli glacier includes four glaciers namely Uttari Balati, Sona, Dakshini Balati and Meola.

How To Reach

By Air: The nearest Airport to the town of Dharchula is the Pantnagar Airport which is at a distance of 300 km from the town. The airport located in Pantnagar connects the region with Delhi and various other major other cities.

By Rail: The closest railway head is the beautiful little railway station of Kathgodam which is 266 km away from the town. The railway station has rail routes to all major towns and cities of India.

By Road: From Delhi you’ll get buses to Haldwani and Tanakpur through the ISBT Anand Vihar. From Tanakpur there are a number of taxis and buses that leave to the beautiful town of Dharchula. Roads are only accessible till Dar, from here on travellers need to undertake a strenuous trek of 60kms to reach the beautiful site of glacier.
