Chakrata

The enthralling weekend destination of Chakrata is one of the most popular hill stations of the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand which lies at an altitude of 2270 mts above the sea level in Dehradun district of the state of Uttarakhand. The secluded hill station has a complete peaceful environment located at around 100 kms North-west of the city of Dehradun. Earlier this small little region had the name of Jaunsar Bawar and most of the population in this town comprises of local Jaunsari Garhwali tribes.

The hill station of Chakrata is mostly surrounded by cantonment area which is located the major rivers of Tons and Yamuna. Any traveller would surely get spell bounded by the natural delights that this peaceful little town has to offer. The exquisite place mostly covered with thick and dense vegetation of coniferous, oak and rhododendron trees. Earlier in 1866, the British Army cantonment was established by Colonel Hume.

Chakrata serves as a perfect natural town for adventure lovers, bird watchers, wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. There is so much that a traveller can do in this quiet little town for spending a delightful vacation. The Chakrata hill station has a rich and diverse flora and fauna and there are a number of excursions around town from where you’re surely bound to get enchanting panoramic views of the surrounding hills. During winter the place truly comes to life and the hill station gets completely covered by a thick sheet of snow which is surely great to watch.

How to Reach

The beautiful hill station of Chakrata is located in the Garhwal Himalayas of the district of Dehradun and is at a little distance from Dehradun. Chakrata can be easily reached by shared jeeps or taxis.

By Road: Chakrata is well linked with the all the Motorable roads of Kumaon and Garhwal. Normal and Luxuy buses to Dehradun, Mussoorie and Chakrata can be availed from New Delhi Kashmiri Gate ISBT.

Either you can drive your vehicle or hire a taxi towards Chakrata. The drive takes around 4 hrs from Dehradun.

By Air: The nearest Airport is the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun which is 113 kms away from Chakrata.Taxis are easily available from Jolly Grant Airport to Chakrata. Jolly Grant is well connected by motorable roads with Chakrata.

By Rail: Dehradun Railway station is the nearest rail link to the town of Chakrata. The town is located at a distance of about 87 kms from Dehradun.
